PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING: AN INTRODUCTION

DEFINITION
ANASTASI: “essentially an objective and standardized measure of a sample of behaviour”
Means of gathering data on which to base conclusions and/or predictions

STANDARDIZATION
Uniformity of procedure in administering and scoring tests, thereby allowing comparisons (same time, same environment, etc)

NORMS
The average or normal performance (5-year-olds and 15-year-olds)

OBJECTIVITY
Independent of subjective judgment of observer/examiner (bias towards a gender or class group)

VALIDITY
Accuracy of measurement; measures what it is supposed to measure (achievement of Unit 2, questions from Unit 3)

RELIABILITY
Stability or consistency of a test; holds good for all situations and all individuals

INTELLIGENCE
Intelligence is a property of mind that encompasses capacities to

LEARNING STYLE
Individuals favor some particular method of interacting with, taking in, and processing stimuli or information. A learning style is the method of learning particular to an individual that is presumed to allow that individual to learn best. It has been proposed that teachers should assess the learning styles of their students and adapt their classroom methods to best fit each student's learning style.
